voice recognition software works horribly. (I am a native English speaker with a clear speaking voice). Customer service person told me that the system doesn't recognize numbers very well and that if you say "agent" 3 times it kicks you through the system to a human.

It's horrendous trying to get through to a local STORE, now that Macy's has bought up several chains. They've eliminated human operators and are now completely automated with voice-mail HELL. And if the automated system rings a department and they don't answer within three rings, it puts you back to the voice-mail hell, and you have to start all over again! If and when you finally get through to someone at a store, chances are you're in the wrong department, and they will transfer you to another wrong department, which may or may not even answer.
